Biographie
Olivier Desvaux
A painter of light and the open air, exhibited at Galerie Le Cube Vernet in Avignon: Olivier Desvaux
Olivier Desvaux, born on 12 May 1982 in Rouen, is a French figurative painter. After a year of applied arts at the École Estienne, he entered the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, graduating in 2006. Also a graduate of the Met de Penninghen school, where he now teaches drawing and sketching, he divides his work between painting, children's book illustration and storyboarding for film.
Oil painting from life at Galerie Le Cube Vernet in Avignon
In the tradition of the Impressionists, Olivier Desvaux mostly paints outdoors, in oil, with his easel set up facing the landscape. Each painting begins with an idea of light that sparks an emotion. Wind, passers-by and the slow drying of oil paint are all part of this demanding practice, which he continues in the studio, returning to his canvases several times. His compositions, often open to the horizon, aim to convey the atmosphere of a place rather than to describe it documentarily.
From the banks of the Seine to distant horizons at Galerie Le Cube Vernet in Avignon
Based on a bend of the Seine in Normandy, a region renowned for its light, the artist draws inspiration from this everyday landscape as well as from his many travels: Morocco, from Tangier to Fez by way of Chefchaouen, Lake Baikal, San Francisco, Greece, Japan, Syracuse, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and the Norwegian fjords. He has also devoted part of his work to dance, with access to rehearsals and backstage at the Paris Opera.

He has also won first prize in the France Galop plein-air painting competition at the Deauville racecourse (2006 and 2007), an accessit from the Fondation André et Berthe Noufflard (2012 and 2014) and first prize at Paliss'art (2015).
A career between exhibitions and large decorative commissions
Exhibited in France and abroad, notably in Paris, Rouen, Le Havre and Japan (Tokyo, Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto), he presented the exhibition Les lumières du voyage at the Villa Les Camélias in Cap-d'Ail in 2025.
