"Life seems fragile and relatively fleeting to me: I paint the fragility of bodies, the passage of time, memory, and forgetting."
Cécile Duchêne-Malissin is a French painter born in Paris, now based in Montargis. A graduate of the Olivier de Serres School and the Faculty of Arts in Strasbourg, she first worked as a graphic designer and visual artist before devoting herself fully to painting. Since 2000, she has exhibited in France and internationally. Her technique combines acrylic paint, pastel, graphite, fabric collage, and sometimes stitching, creating a universe that is both realistic and dreamlike.
Her work explores the themes of fragility, the passage of time, memory, and intimacy. Her silent portraits—human or animal—invite contemplation within vegetal, symbolic, or minimalist settings. Each canvas becomes a space of emotional resonance, open to interpretation. Duchêne-Malissin thus creates a sensitive and poetic body of work, marked by a fine attention to light, textures, and the gaze of the other.
