About the Artwork:
Original artwork by the artist Elia Pagliarino, created using double firing, highlights the Kukeri carnival, an ancient Bulgarian tradition where men dress as mythical creatures to chase away evil spirits through impressive costumes and ritual dances. The work features hybrid figures with imposing horns and colorful patterns, reflecting the mystical and symbolic energy of this festival. Its vibrant and contrasting aesthetic conveys the spirit of the ritual, blending folklore and imagination into a unique artistic representation.

“We should not fear ambiguities; we must encourage differences.”
Elia Pagliarino is a French visual artist born in 1967, whose work explores notions of identity, appearance, and collective memory. Raised in an environment marked by diversity and disability, she draws inspiration from ethnology, biology, and popular culture to create works combining drawing, sculpture, and ceramics. After a career in graphic design and scenography, she has devoted herself entirely to art since 2014.
Her work stands out through collections such as Balises©, ceramics preserving life stories, and Contes Sauvages, large drawings depicting an exuberant human bestiary. Winner of the Pure Art Prize in 2017, she continues to explore new artistic forms from her studio in the Aude region.
