GROS

Etienne Gros was born in Saint-Dié in 1962, and now lives and works in the Paris region.
From 1981 to 1986, he studied at various art schools: Beaux-Arts d'Epinal, Beaux-Arts de Versailles. He graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied with Iscan, Olivier Debré and Vélicovic.
Etienne Gros paints fragmentary anatomies, truncated bodies seemingly disassociated from the physical whole and physiognomy. But his torsos, flanks, pelvises and knees appear as if caught in the middle of a battle, releasing mysterious forces.
A manipulator of materials, the artist uses the marouflage technique, applying a thick sheet of paper to each canvas, which lives and moves chemically on contact with the acrylic paint.
