About the artwork:

Original artwork by the artist Elia Pagliarino, created using a double-firing process, highlights the Kukeri carnival, an ancient Bulgarian tradition in which men dressed as mythical creatures chase away evil spirits with impressive costumes and ritual dances. The artwork presents hybrid figures with imposing horns and colorful patterns, reflecting the mystical and symbolic energy of this celebration. Its vibrant and contrasted aesthetic conveys the spirit of the ritual, blending folklore and imagination in a singular artistic representation.

About the artist:

We must not be afraid of ambiguities; we must encourage differences.

Elia Pagliarino is a French visual artist born in 1967 whose work explores notions of identity, appearance and collective memory. Coming from an environment marked by diversity and disability, she draws inspiration from ethnology, biology and popular culture to create works combining drawing, sculpture and ceramics. After a career in graphic design and scenography, she has devoted herself entirely to art since 2014.

Her work stands out through collections such as the Balises©, ceramics preserving life stories, and the Contes Sauvages, large drawings representing an exuberant human bestiary. Winner of the Pure Art Prize in 2017, she continues to explore new artistic forms from her studio in the Aude region.
