About the artwork: Marianne by Olivier Duhamel
Marianne by Olivier Duhamel: original artwork by the artist, a seated woman in wood, her arms wrapped around her knees and her face raised. The fine layers of the laminated wood draw relief lines that follow the curves of the body. The work demonstrates his mastery of form and his unique artistic approach. About the artist:
“Through my creations, I focus on capturing the beauty and sensuality of my subjects.”
Born in France in 1957, Olivier Duhamel is a French figurative sculptor who settled in New Zealand in 1987. After numerous travels across Europe, Central Africa and the South Pacific, he settled on Waiheke Island, near Auckland, where he lives and works today.
Passionate about human morphology, Duhamel masters the representation of the body, which he explores through sculptures in bronze, wood and acrylic. He is particularly known for his innovative laminated sculpture technique, where laser-cut layers of wood or resin are assembled by hand to create detailed and expressive three-dimensional forms.
