About the artwork: Sandy by Olivier Duhamel
Sandy by Olivier Duhamel: original artwork by the artist, a woman in wood seated on the ground, leaning back on her hands, legs bent and hair pinned up. The fine layers of the laminated wood draw relief lines that follow the curves of the body. The work demonstrates his mastery of form and his unique artistic approach. About the artist:
“ Through my creations, I strive to capture the beauty and sensuality of my subjects. ”
Born in France in 1957, Olivier Duhamel is a French figurative sculptor who settled in New Zealand in 1987. After numerous travels across Europe, Central Africa and the South Pacific, he established himself on Waiheke Island, near Auckland, where he lives and works.
Passionate about human morphology, Duhamel masters the representation of the body, expressed through sculptures in bronze, wood and acrylic. He is particularly known for his innovative laminated technique, where layers of wood or resin, laser-cut, are manually assembled to create detailed and expressive three-dimensional forms.
